The Archive
This "Living Archive" offers first-person narratives on themes impacting young people in the United States. The goal of the archive is to promote Growth through Exposure and Awareness by expanding Social Literacy and Social and Emotional Learning competencies among all people. Simply click on the Collections or Resources tab at the top left of the screen to begin exploring The Empathy Archive themes.
The Empathy Archive is searchable according to specific demographic categories.

Narratives in The Empathy Archive can be explored by utilizing the search filter feature in order to identify experiences according to the demographic categories listed below, or by simply searching through the narratives according to the listed collections. A descriptive legend for using the search tags associated with the archive is listed below.

FAQs
Are the narratives censored for language or content?
- No. The narratives have not been edited/censored for language or content. In some cases, the narratives use language that might by seen as sensitive or offensive. However, the narratives have not been edited or censored in order to remain true to the participant’s experience of the theme discussed.
Are the narratives accompanied by transcripts?
- Yes. Transcripts are available with each narrative. To access the transcript, simply click on the chosen narrative file and select “transcript” on the right-hand side of the screen.
Is closed captioning available?
- Yes. To access the closed captioning feature, simply push play on the selected narrative file and then choose the closed caption feature (cc) in the bottom right-hand corner of the media player.
